Simon Cowell’s Hot Ride

March 25, 2008

There is one thing that Simon Cowell, one of the judge for “American Idol,” is now known for. No, it’s something else besides his frankness when it comes to giving comments to the contestants. It’s his Bugatti Veyron, a powerful 16-cylinder four-wheel drive. It’s astonishing in looks and even more astonishing in performance and capabilities. This certain Bugatti boasts of a maximum speed of over 400 km per hour. Its horsepower will make jaws drop and heads spin, as its total offers up to 1,001. The Veyron needs only a horsepower between 270 and 280 to get a constant sped of 250 km/h. To help bring out the best performance and an unforgettable drive or ride, its Electronic Stability Program (ESP) makes certain that you get adjusted accordingly to whatever speed you’re riding with. Its advanced aerodynamics keeps you assured that you’ll stay on the road even when you’re racing down the street. This car goes from zero to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. An efficient braking system? Not a problem at all. Bugatti made sure that its ceramic brakes slow down quicker than it can accelerate.

Making use of titanium, carbon, magnesium, and aluminum, this car was meant to be truly lightweight. Titanium piston rods, titanium screws, magnesium valve caps, and titanium exhaust system all shave off some weight to achieve this lightweight flawlessness. With this car, safety is not overlooked. Carbon monocoque construction is applied. It is capable of withstanding massive impact from crashes. It’s the same material used in the Formula 1 racecars. The Bugatti Veyron has precision engineering – from the steering system to the tires. Every inch of this model seems to scream out perfection. Not really a far cry from what Simon Cowell aims for when it comes to his expectations regarding the contestants of the reality T.V. show “American Idol.”

Behind the Garage Doors of the World’s Richest

March 13, 2008

Everyone loves to own at least one car. In today’s world, it has become a necessity. But when you’re rich and money is no object at all, what cars will you own? How many cars will you own? Owner of casino resorts such as Wynne Las Vegas, billionaire Stephen Wynne, had just bought his wife, Elaine, a blue Ferrari F430 Spyder of the 2007 model. The story behind the purchase can be summed up to this: Because the color of the Spydr matches her eyes. Mrs. Wynne has other cars aside from her new Ferrari. She also drives a Bentley Arnage and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Other billionaires prefer less flashy cars. Warren Buffett, a genius investor, drives around a low-profile Cadillac DTS sedan in spite of the fact that he is worth more than $50 billion. With a similar case, the Wal-Mart successor, Alice Walton chose to own a typical Ford F-150 pickup.

Donald Trump, a billionaire because of his real estate empire, spends hundreds of thousands (or more) for his rides of choice. His car collection includes several Rolls-Royce Phantoms and a Ferrari F430.

Owning cars, whether you’re a billionaire or not, really does speak of one’s personality. It has become a popular tool of expression. Aside from owning cars that suit both needs and wants, accessorizing them is something most people seem to enjoy doing.

“Entourage” Cast Talks Cars

March 6, 2008

The successful HBO television show series “Entourage” features a group of men out for a good time, women and male bonding sessions. But what actually goes on behind the set when the lights are turned down and the scenes are done and over with? Well, there are interviews, for one thing. And during one of their interviews, the guys from the show talked about what any other man wants to talk about: cars.

Kevin Dillon, who portrays Johnny Drama, revealed that his first car was an Audi Fox. When it got wrecked, he replaced it with a ’67 Firebird, which was a convertible. There’s a story behind that: On Friday the 13th, someone jumped out in front of him and was sent smashing through the side of the convertible. Needless to say, Friday the 13th still scares this guy until now. He said, “But they were both great cars, and I now have a ’69 Firebird, which is the best car I’ve ever had because I’ve had it for the longest period of time and it runs like a champ. It just kicks over every time. It’s amazing. I’ve had so many other cars come and go, and that Firebird is the best.” Admittedly, Dillon’s dream car is a ’67 Corvette which he hopes to own someday.

A ’65 Mustang was the first car ever owned by Jeremy Piven (a.k.a. Ari Gold). Too bad that his friend had it taken away from the city due to too many parking tickets. He was in London studying in college at that time and had gone home to find his beloved Mustang gone and sold. When asked what his dream car is, Piven responded that he’s into vintage cars like vintage Jaguars. “They’re kind of amazing,” He said.

1988 Acura Legend, gray leather interior. This was the first car that Rhys Coiro (Billy Walsh) owned. He made it pretty clear how much he loved that car, saying that one can’t go wrong with a Honda. At the moment, he doesn’t own a car. He does have a Kawasaki KLR 650, though.

Rex Lee, or Lloyd in the show, had a secondhand Buick Skylark for his first car. Next car he’d be driving? A Toyota Prius, which seems to be a favorite among the celebrities. Not one to fancy sports car, Lee says he wants some nice luxury car, like a Lexus.

The man behind the hit show, Mark Wahlberg, was also asked about his first owned car and his dream car. He said that the first car he ever bought was a Volkswagen Bug but the “first legal car” he had was a ’75 Cutlass Supreme. The story behind that car? “I sold it. I smashed it and sold it.” When asked about his dream car, he replied that he would want an electric Cadillac Escalade. This is the kind of car he hopes Cadillac will soon work on.

Fuel-friendly Fleet at the Academy Awards

February 17, 2008

Green cars. Environmentally friendly. Conscious of the environment. Drive green. Recently, these all seem to be the words spoken or mentioned when cars are brought up. Now even the 80th Annual Academy Awards will be joining in on the green fun when vehicles from GMC and Chevrolet are tasked to provide transportation to Hollywood celebrities during the said event. GM has already been in a similar scene before, at the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards, not to mention the 39th NAACP Image Awards. GM had participated by contributing their “fuel-friendly” vehicles to both events. Their Director of Marketing Alliances and Branded Entertainment, Dino Bernacchi had spoken about their involvement and said, “GM’s longstanding relationship with Hollywood and our strong commitment to bringing advanced technologies to market that will help diversify fuel sources and reduce vehicle emissions makes this the perfect time for GM to drive ‘green’ to the Oscars… Our outreach to showcase GM’s ‘fuel-friendly’ products will be increasingly evident in the entertainment industry in 2008 with presence at awards shows, film festivals and special events, as well as a heightened product placement effort in movies and television.” One of the vehicle models which GM will provide is the GMC Yukon Hybrid, their first full-sized SUV hybrid which no other hybrid vehicles can compare to when it comes to fuel efficiency and performance. Its maximum towing is 6,200 pounds and can seat eight passengers.

Chevrolet will also be stopping at the red carpet with their Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell electric vehicles. These vehicles are zero-gas and zero-emissions without sacrificing its performance. In 12 seconds it can go from zero to 60 miles per hour. It has 236-lb.-ft. of instant torque; top speed is roughly around 100 miles per hour. The Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell electric vehicles can seat up to four passengers.

Celebrities will also be seen being shuttled by a couple of FlexFuel E85 ethanol-compatible Yukon SUVs (still provided by the world-renowned automobile company, the aforementioned GM). It seems that the Hollywood celebrities who will be attending this year’s 80th Annual Academy Award will be enjoying rides that are both stylish and environmentally friendly.

Jason Priestley Starts a New IRL Team

February 5, 2008

Ever since the Beverly Hills 90210 star, Jason Priestley, had hit a wall after going 180 mph at the Kentucky Speedway back in August of 2002, he hasn’t been spotted being behind the wheels. At least, not that often enough. The accident had broken both his back and his feet. However, his love for racing can’t be called broken.

Known as an avid racer, Jason Priestley has gotten into a joint venture with the former general manager of Kelley racing, Jim Freudenberg. This partnership is going to start a new IRL or Indy Racing League team. The said team of Priestley and Freudenberg only has one race planned for competition and that is the Indianapolis 500.

There are two pro football players in the Rubicon Race Team advisory board. There’s Dallas Clark from Indianapolis Colts and then there’s Jason baker from the Carolina Panthers. The idea is to put a high-profile, seasoned driver behind the wheels when Rubicon Race Team joins the big race which is going to take place at the Brickyard some time in May. However, no names have been signed up yet.

American Idol judge has one of the fastest rides

November 5, 2007

Simon Cowell may not be everybody’s favorite American Idol judge but you’ll envy him once you find out that he owns the world’s most expensive and fastest street-legal car, the Bugatti Veyron. This amazing vehicle cost about £750,000, and can surely deliver, with a top speed of top speed of 253.81 mph. It is also capable of producing 1001 horsepower. This fast car is manufactured by Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS.

Bugatti Veyron
Named after French racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti firm, first sighting of this vehicle was in the Tokyo Motor Show. Back then it was the 1999 EB 18.4 “Veyron” concept car. It wasn’t until in 2005 that the production car was showcased at that year’s Tokyo Motor Show.
The Veyron is equipped with a W16 engine—16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders. Its massive engine sums up to two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a “W” configuration. For an intense feel of its speed and power, it features a dual-clutch DSG computer-controlled manual transmission with 7 gear ratios via shifter paddles behind the steering wheel and can also be driven by full automatic transmission.
One would be surprised that along its powerful engine the Veyron also has a total of 10 radiators: Three for the engine cooling system, one heat exchanger for the air to liquid intercoolers, two for the air conditioning system, one transmission oil radiator, one differential oil radiator, one engine oil radiator and one hydraulic oil radiator for the spoiler.

If any of you ever think about chasing Simon Cowell, you better think twice because when he’s in his Veyron, I doubt it if anyone can catch up to him.

Hilary’s surprise birthday gift

September 25, 2007

Birthdays are always special, the cake and the gifts always complete the whole event. But Hilary Duff was not expecting what she got as a gift from her hockey player boyfriend, Mike Comrie. He called Duff to say he’d picked out an early 20th birthday present for her and that “I hope you like them.”

“Okay, it’s shoes or something,” Duff recalled thinking as she went to her sister’s house, where Comrie had said he left the present in the garage. “I opened the garage, and I was just like shocked, just standing there.”

In front of her with a big red bow on top, was a Mercedes-Benz G-class SUV, which is said to cost more than $100,000.

Comrie actually got the idea for the gift when he heard Duff talking about her transportation needs. Duff was not sure what to get. “I was planning on getting a big car and I drive a big car anyway, and I was just like, ‘You know maybe I like the G-Wagen,’ and then I was like, ‘No, maybe I like the [Porsche] Cayenne,’ ” says Duff.

Looks like Hilary Duff will no longer have any problem choosing the right ride, now that her boyfriend gave her the right ride.
