Eddie Jordan’s Sports Car Up for Grabs

March 27, 2008

Eddie Jordan is a former Formula One team boss and his Morgan Plus 4 sports car – which only covered only 530 miles – is for sale. Born in Ireland, he founded and formerly owned the Jordan Grand Prix team which he managed to run from 1991 until 2005. Although they weren’t exactly top notch, the team did manage to get a one-two during he 1998 Belgium Grand Prix with Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher.

The Morgan Plus 4 is a classic British sports car manufactured based on the 1950s original model. This car is a modern classic that’s all about throwing in a “big torquey motor in a lightweight car and go!” It is powered by a 2-liter Duratec engine and can go from 0-62 in a space of 7.3 seconds. One can find a leather dash board and console in the interior of the car. This two-seater is enveloped in claret leather and comes with a heated front screen. The wheels are just as impressive: 15-inch stainless steel wire wheels. This is an option that costs around a thousand pounds.

This car may look old and traditional but don’t let that fool you. It’s built to catch up to today’s modern need for speed.

Batista’s Rides: What Was Tricked Out and What Wasn’t

March 14, 2008

You’d be surprised if you knew the cars that the star wrestler Dave Batista prefers. The first expensive car he bought was a black 2003 BMW 745Li. He confessed that he is still attached to it until now. The outside of this sedan may not look like it houses a fairly spacious interior but it seems to suit Batista just fine. This sleek sedan is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine which has 325 horsepower. It is obviously able to deliver a smooth yet potent ride. If you have any doubts about how a six foot five can fit into it, here is what Batista had to say, “I got it ‘cause it was so roomy.” Apparently, the inside of the 2003 BMW 745Li is spacious and comfortable enough for him, as he hadn’t done any changes to the car. True to the BMW’s elegant and luxurious nature, the materials used for trimming the cabin are leather, brushed aluminum and wood.

What else was Batista gushing about his first ever lavish car? The wheels. He said, “It has really nice rims, Asanti (22-inch) with black centers. The cool thing about the rims is that they have a six-inch deep-dish lip, which is not real common. I have the Strut grille package. I shaved off the BMW emblems, and had Strut put on it. People ask me all the time what kind of car it is.”

Other cars one can find in his garage are an immaculate-looking Mercedes Benz SL500 with 20-inch Asanti rims and a Hummer H2 which he drives the most. He had some changes made to the Hummer H2, like a sound system comprised of four 1000-watt Alpine amps and eight Kicker subs.

February 27, 2008

“Having a passion for cars and motor sport, I am really looking forward to the opportunity to be part of all the GP action.” That is what Mark Philippoussis, the Australian tennis player champion, said about being included in the 2008 FORMULA 1™ ING Australian Grand Prix. The race is going to be held in Melbourne, Australia.

Philippoussis was one of the recent additions to the list of participants for the said event. The 193 centimeters tall Aussie tennis player will be in the race along with other athletes across various sports such as ALF, athletics, basketball, cricket, netball, rugby, soccer, and surfing.

The tall stature of Philippoussis was a bit of a concern for a moment, as there were qualms about him being able to fit into the vehicle that he would be using, the Celebrity Challenge Fiat 500. All worries were dispelled when he climbed into the Fiat and fitted in just right. The Fiat 500 is one of the hottest cars in Europe, with the proof of being awarded in different occasions several times. David Stone, General Manager of Fiat Cars in Australia, had something to say about the Fiat 500: “With its outstanding advance sales, its unique parentage and cheeky good looks, the new Fiat 500 is already a celebrity in its own right.”

Dan Wheldon: “I’m a First-Class Flipper”

February 9, 2008

His career track is not something to be looked down. Well into his fifth season of racing competition, the 29 year-old English already impressed a lot of people with his skilled driving. He already has eleven wins in his IndyCar career, not to mention holding victory at the Indianapolis 500. Dan Wheldon belongs to Target IndyCar team, which has garnered five championship titles and forty-six wins. Admitting that he’s more of the laid-back, introverted type and that he’s not that scary when driving on the usual roads, Dan Wheldon also says that in the matter of cars he’s a “flipper.” To quote from him, “I admit it: I’m a first-class flipper… Not so long ago I had seven cars in the driveway . . . a new BMW M6, a BMW 330i, and a tricked-out Range Rover. I forget the rest. I woke up one morning and just decided to flip them. So this guy comes round, offers me a quarter of a million for the lot, and by five o’clock they’re on his truck and away.”

His collection of cars is just as impressive. His collection is definitely not something to be scoffed at. Not counting his race car, a Honda-powered, single-eat with 240-.p.h. (385 km-h), one of the cars Dan Wheldon owns is an Aston DB9. This particular model had cost him $200,000. He also loves his monster truck, the black Hummer H2, which he tweaked a little. The said Hummer now has 20-inch chrome rims. Another car included in his collection is an all-wheel drive Acura RL. He had it customized with 20-inch wheels. His plans of customizing his stealthy-black Acura do not end there. He wants to have it lowered with a television system installed at the back. “I want something different than the usual seven-inch screens in the back of the headrests. I’m looking at having a 20-inch LCD screen mounted on some kind of adjustable bracket on the center console. I’m still refining the idea.”

In a more sentimental note, Dan Wheldon has kept the red 2005 Corvette Indy Pace Car. He claims he would never sell it, as it would always be a reminder to him of that particularly significant victory back in 2005. “Winning the 500 is the best. It really puts a stamp on your career, really puts you on the map. It was definitely a defining moment for me. It’s certainly a wonderful feeling to be in the company of the racing greats who’ve won it in the past: A. J. Foyt and Rick Mears, and Britain’s Graham Hill and Jim Clark.”

Other cars he owns are a Jaguar XKR Coupe and an Acura MDX sport. Dan Wheldon says that he gets a kick out of constantly having something new to play with. Given his striking car collection, it is clear that he really does enjoy cars – whether racing on the tracks or driving on roads.
