Taking a Look at Some Celebrities’ Unique Cars

March 11, 2008

Some celebrities – Hollywood celebs, sports stars, music artists — like to keep a low profile while others tend to bask in the spotlight directed to them. They all approach and treat their stardom in varying ways, whether it’s about their preferences when staying in a hotel or their take on menu when going for a tour. It’s a real variety out there and it’s time to take a look at some of the vehicles of celebrities. Vehicles which are meant to grab attention and make people stop and stare.

The first on the list is Britney Spears’ 2005 Hummer H2. It’s huge, it’s pink and it’s owned by none other than the Pop Princess herself, Britney Spears. This Hummer H2 is powered by a 6-liter V8 engine and has a 4-speed automatic transmission. Based from the military-based H1, this Hummer was built as a more compact, more civilian-friendly and less costly than SUVs. It can accommodate up to five passengers with an optional third row.

Rapper baby Bash owns a 2005 Dodge Magnum. This sleek car of his is done in two-tone, sure to catch anyone’s attention. This one’s a wagon with three trim levels offered: SE, SXT and RT. The SE houses a 2.7-liter V6 engine with 190 hp while the SXT is powered by a V6 with 250 hp. With the RT trim comes a 5.7-lier V8 engine with 340 hp. This Dodge seems to be designed to look cool and to give a powerful performance.

Basketball star Tracy McGrady preferred the 2002 Ferrari Spyder 360 Modena F1 as one of his choices of cars. It comes with leather seats, a blast of an effective air conditioning system, power windows, locks and mirrors, and AM/FM radio with CD player. This being a supercar seems to be a fitting choice for such a distinguished player.

Beckham: All Blacked Out

February 18, 2008

David Beckham was recently spotted driving a Porsche Turbo Cabriolet when he picked up his wife, Victoria (“Posh Spice”), at the LAX Airport. This Cabriolet was customized for Beckham, getting an overhaul to suit his taste and style. The headrests of the vehicle had custom embroideries and the exterior was made all black. Beckham fans would be keen to know that his customized Porsche Turbo Cabriolet now matches the rest of his five black vehicles.

Distinctively styled with class, the Porsche Turbo Cabriolet has an engine which is all about power. It has turbochargers which features Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) and its 3.6-L engine has 353 kW at 6,000 rpm. It has a maximum torque of 620Nm, where it can rise to 680 Nm with the “overboost” function that comes with the Sport Chrono Package Turbo option. Safety is not left behind with this model. It has 6-piston fixed calipers at the front and the rear has four-piston fixed calipers. With monobloc aluminum construction, these brakes provide more stability and added efficiency in braking. This is just scratching the surface of safety. This particular model also comes with anti-theft protection and six separate airbags.

The standard seats have full electric adjustments, its seat base lowered to give more headroom. The rear seats have a lot of storage area. One simply folds the backrests down for that extra 155 liters’ worth of luggage space. The additional features of the Porsche Turbo Cabriolet are the “Welcome Home” lighting, ParkAssist, Cruise control, HomeLink, and Dimming mirrors.

The Porsche Turbo Cabriolet is the vehicle with high torque at low engine speeds. This means that there is no turbo lag. It also has excellent handling and increase in performance. The power output may be high but that its fuel consumption? You’d be surprised to know that it’s low.

Yao’s simple ride

August 17, 2007

Yao Ming with wifeYao Ming, the Chinese Houston Rockets player, likes his ride plain and simple. Not the usual Ferrari or a customized car with big, shiny rims. He is happy with his a BMW 7-series that feature a “Y&Y” logo – for Yao and his wife Ye Li – on the rear.

In an interview with his co-player, Shaquille O’Neil, he said “If you let me choose a wedding gift for him, I would give Yao four 24-inch customized rims at his wedding ceremony.”

It seem that Shaq want his fellow Rockets player to have a fancier ride.

Ride it like Beckham

April 28, 2007

david-beckham-picture-1.jpg Known as the best soccer player in England, David Beckham has an obsession with cars, and apparently has too many of them. One of his latest acquisition is the Italian supercar, Lamborghini Gallardo. With a paycheck of $250 million for joining Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy. This football star really knows how to ride.

The Gallardo was designed as a competitor to Ferrari‘s 360 Modena, and now competes with its replacement, the F430. Although performance is lower than that of the Murcielago, it is still very high, and the Gallardo has much better rearward visibility (than the Murcielago) and, according to reviewers, is more maneuverable and tractable in low-speed traffic, making the Gallardo a more practical car to drive. It is also much more practical to use in bad weather than many other supercars, thanks to rear-biased all-wheel drive

At current U.S. prices, a base Gallardo costs about US$175,000 to $300,000.

The Gallardo offers two choices of transmissions, a conventional six-speed manual transmission, and an advanced six-speed electro-hydraulically controlled auto-clutch manual, or, as Lamborghini abbreviates it to, “E-gear”. The latter allows the driver to make shifts much faster than an automatic transmission would, with the control that a manual offers. The driver shifts up and down via paddles behind the steering wheel, and does not need to manually actuate the clutch.

Surely with this ride, he can go wherever he wants to.
