Green cars may not be for everyone

August 31, 2007

The automotive industry has been getting a lot of support from celebrities for their green cars. But not everyone is pleased about it.

Yoko Ono, the widow of late Beatle John Lennon, was not at all impressed by these innovative vehicles. In fact, she feels that environmentally-friendly cars are not as comfortable as her Bentley.

She thinks that along with concerns to reduce pollution levels through hybrid vehicles, the manufacturers should also take care of people’s comfort.

An online source quoted her saying, “Can someone make Hybrid cars as comfortable as a Bentley, please?”

August 24, 2007

Hilary DuffWe are always watching out for the latest mischief, success and glamorous lifestyle of celebrities. Their homes and cars are just some of the things we are so interested, because most of the time, they tend to buy the fastest, luxurious and most powerful vehicles.

It is not common that celebrities would not be allowed to buy the ride that they want, well not in the case of Hilary Duff. Apparently Hilary Duff has been banned from buying her dream car, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, because she is such a bad driver. It has been reported that Hilary Duff is apparently such a bad driver that her manager was the one to ban her, saying that he was looking after her well being.

Hilary said that “The other day I had a little accident because I was driving while I was on the phone. It was just a tap, nothing serious, so I thought; I’ll keep going its fine, whatever. But my business manager told me, ‘You have to be careful, because people will sue you.’ So I need to be cautious.”

August 17, 2007

Yao Ming with wifeYao Ming, the Chinese Houston Rockets player, likes his ride plain and simple. Not the usual Ferrari or a customized car with big, shiny rims. He is happy with his a BMW 7-series that feature a “Y&Y” logo – for Yao and his wife Ye Li – on the rear.

In an interview with his co-player, Shaquille O’Neil, he said “If you let me choose a wedding gift for him, I would give Yao four 24-inch customized rims at his wedding ceremony.”

It seem that Shaq want his fellow Rockets player to have a fancier ride.

August 11, 2007

Some athletes just need to have choices when it comes to their rides. Wayne Mark Rooney is one of them. When he don’t feel like driving his BMW, he goes for his Ford Ka.

Ford Ka

This Ford offers numerous features from the precise steering, slick gearchange and strong chassis.  Initially, Ford Ka was   offered in three trim levels, the base Ka, the Ka2 and Ka3. All three came with five-speed manual gearbox, driver’s airbag and a split-fold rear seat. It wasn’t until June 1997 that the base model included power steering.

Ka2s was the popular model with its central locking, electric windows, driver’s seat-height adjustment and power steering. There were few that favored the Ka3, which is equipped with its air-conditioning, alloys, CD player and metallic paint.

Kieron DyerAnother great athlete with nice wheels is Kieron Dyer. He goes to his matches with the Ferrari 360.

Dyer’s football career began with his hometown team, Ipswich Town, whom he signed for as a 17-year-old trainee in 1996. He broke into the Ipswich first team during his first season at the club, and quickly established a reputation as one of the top youngsters in English football outside of the Premier League. He spent three years at Portman Road, then requested a transfer in order to further his international prospects, after Ipswich failed to gain promotion through the playoffs into the Premier League in 1999.

Rooney drives a BMW X5

August 9, 2007

Other than the Hollywood stars, Sports superstars are also spending a lot on their rides. In the the following posts, I will be looking at what some soccer stars of UK are driving when they are not hitting the goal.

Wayne Mark RooneyWayne Mark Rooney of Manchester United stole the spotlight in 2002 when he scored a memorable goal against title-holders Arsenal, ending their 30-match unbeaten run. Receiving the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box, Rooney brought it down with instant control and turned away from his marker before firing it into the top left-hand corner of the goal, beating England keeper David Seaman and giving Everton a late 2-1 victory at Goodison Park. Not to mention that he was only 16 years old when he scored the goal, making him the youngest ever goalscorer in the Premiership at the time.

This incredible soccer player drives his BMW X5 when he is not busy with the sport. The vehicle has a V8 engine that benefits from a power hike from 286bhp to 320bhp and a cut in 0 to 62mph time from 7.5sec to 7sec. Despite the extra power, fuel consumption has actually improved.

The Italian pop sensation Lorenz, who sang the hit song Set Me Free, shares how he loves his Lexus RX400 Hybrid. According to him, he has always been very aware of green issues while saying that he really treasures the planet and want to do his best to take care of it. He deduced that his car has been a revelation to him and that he was so amazed with its qualities.

Furthermore, he said it is really a beautiful car – very luxurious and comfortable inside – that one does not think it is even switched on. He was also particularly stunned by the fact that its petrol consumption is the lowest he has ever experienced and that he traveled a lot around the UK.

The Lexus RX 400h uses a hybrid powertrain system that combines a gasoline-fueled V6 engine with a battery pack and electric motor generators.
