The Venquish in Brosnan’s reel and real life

May 25, 2007

Former James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, is a proud owner of the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. It was designed in 1995 by Ian Callum. The Vanquish is powered by a 5.9hp. It has a top speed of 190mph. This powerful vehicle really had Brosnan. In fact it actually rose to fame after being featured as Brosnan’s official James Bond car in Die Another Day, the twentieth James Bond film. In the film, the Vanquish has the usual Bond film embellishments, including an active camouflage which rendered the vehicle virtually invisible, giving it the nickname “the Vanish”.

A dreamy car for Mcdreamy

May 24, 2007

Just like his character, McDreamy in Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey owns a dreamy car as well, a Lotus Exige. It is essentially a coupe version of the Lotus Elise, which is a roadster. It actually has the essence of a race car which suits Dempsey’s interest since he is a car racer himself. The powerful engine of the Exige revs up to 8500 rpm. It has brilliant handling and steering and a strong It also has low running costs.pdempseylotus111306_4.jpg

There is another one…

May 22, 2007

Last week, when I wrote about Wyclef Jean’s Ferrari, I forgot to mention that he has another amazing vehicle.

The auto collection of rapper and producer Wyclef Jean includes a rare, 543-horsepower Pagani Zonda C12-S, an exclusive Italian-built sports car that sells for $350,000 according to Motor Trend Magazine.

The C12 S used a 7.0L AMG tuned version of the engine. It can accelerate to 60mph in 3.7 seconds, to 100 mph in 9.5 seconds. The car is 10 kg (22 lb) lighter than the normal Zonda C12. Top speed is 220mph for the coupe and 215mph for the roadster. The also C12 S features an elongated nose and flaps at the rear for improved aerodynamics. New light clusters and exhausts are also used. Only fifteen 7.0L C12 S cars were produced. Wyclef is just one of the lucky few that owns this amazing vehicle.

Big car to go with a big career

May 19, 2007

fergie-the_dutchessmarked.jpgWhen it comes to cars, Fergie likes it big. That is why she chose the Hummer H2. The H2 is marketed as both a general purpose vehicle and as an off-road vehicle. Because of mass marketing by GM, it is primarily used as a passenger vehicle on typical roads. It is actually very spacious with a capacity for 6 passengers. This Hummer is quite powerful too. It is capable of climbing over a 16-inch-high (0.4 m) vertical wall. Fergie’s choice may not be the ordinary for a female, but what can we say, she likes it big and powerful.

Is it sweet or creepy…

May 18, 2007

osbourne_324×450.jpgI just found out that Jack Osbourne, yup.. Ozzy’s son, has an interesting car. He drives a BMW X5. You’ll probably say, “what’s so special about that?” As you can see in the photo, the car features a phantasmagorical rendition of the family Osbourne, depicting them as corpses. It’s sweet to have a family portrait painted on your car but depicting them as corpses? There’s something to think about. Anyway, going back to his X5. The BMW X5 was this German automaker’s first entry into the luxury SUV segment. BMW designed the X5 for on-road performance and handling. It was actually praised fo its carlike ride and handling, its wide range of engine choices and its top safety scores and equipment.

Wyclef’s spider

May 17, 2007

wyclefjean.jpgThe famous hit maker Wycleaf Jean does not only rap fast, he rides faster. Thanks to his Ferrari 360 spider, he is able to out run anybody on the road. Just having a Ferrari would equivalent to the speed it can provide its handler, but a Spider is something else. It was first introduced in 2000 in Italy. The Spider is the best car Maranello has produced in terms of engineering, looks, and performance. It is also the most technologically advanced convertible available today. The hood of the car is able to fold into the engine bay. The engine is mid mounted, which means it is in the middle of the car.

The Cobra can attack

May 12, 2007

The 1966 Ford AC Cobra 427 is supposedly Jay Leno’s favorite car from the ’60s, and who wouldn’t like it? The name itself makes it lethal enough to attack you. It’s actually very popular car for two reasons: looks and speed. With its powerful V8 427 engine that puts out a top speed of 425 horsepower, which might not sound much but the Cobra has one of the best power to weight ratios around. Judging on the looks, the 427 Cobra is really an American classic.

The Cobra’s best feature would probably be its body. The 427 Cobra has a tube frame, aluminum body and coil spring chassis that not only sets it apart; it puts it well ahead of the pack.

As I repeatedly say “the Cobra” just to really give an emphasis on the excellence of this vehicle. Just by its sleek look and style, truly something to bow down to.

Power and Speed

May 11, 2007

Now back to the Jay Leno collection, featuring his 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 which has a V12 engine that rockets out a top speed of over 170 mph and produces 350 horsepower.

Did you know that there were only 275 units of these were produced between 1966 and 1969. It was also considered as a success for Lamborghini despite its then-steep $20,000 price (approx. $114,000 in today’s terms). 700 out of 750 Miura engines had the gearbox in the sump of the engine, and the gearbox shared the engine oil for lubrication, which needed frequent and consistent oil changes. The only reason to separate it was the introduction of limited slip rear differential which required appropriate oil. The early Miura is the lightest model and is completely built in aluminum.

Power and speed are just some of the factors Leno considers with his car collection. This Lamborghini will give him just that.

A collector’s world

May 10, 2007

jay_leno.jpgJay Leno’s love for cars and motorcycle is not a secret. There have been numerous articles and interviews regarding this matter. He would even showcased his large collection to various event and sometimes even auctioning off some of them to help people. Like when he auctioned off a Harley-Davidson motorcycle signed by his celebrity guests, which sold for about $360,000, to help victims of the September 11 attacks. And in 2005, he repeated this act two times. When a bike was sold for $810,000 early in the year to aid victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake. He later sold another bike for $1,505,100 to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

His good acts and vast car collection have drawn interest in the automotive scene. Adding to that he being a famous comedian and best known as the current host of NBC television’s long-running variety and talk program The Tonight Show, is something that will go unnoticeable.

So, I decided to check out some of his cars myself and see how this guy really rides.

Today, we will look at his 1995 McLaren F1. This car features a custom built BMW S70/2 engine that is a 6.1-liter, quad-cam, 48-valve V12. With all that power, the McLaren can run at a top speed of 240 mph. The concept behind this car was to give the driver racing quality performance that could be used every day. Then, chief engineer Gordon Murray‘s design concept was a common one among designers of high-performance cars: low weight and high power. This was achieved through use of high-tech and expensive materials like carbon fiber, titanium, gold and magnesium.

The McLaren F1 is one of the best performing vehicle in its time and this is probably why Leno added it to his growing collection. Watch out for more of Jay Leno’s car in my next blog posts.
